A well-known daytime talk show host reconized a popular holiday contest which airs on CKBW and Country 100.7 in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.

Kelly Ripa of the syndicated show "Live with Kelly" was hosting a Christmas themed show on December 14. All audience members were asked to wear ugly Christmas sweaters, and it just so happens, Kelly chose to wear a grey sweater featuring a festive crustacean wearing black boots and a Santa hat.

CKBW listener Brenda Ernst was watching and decided to send the show an email describing the contest – which is called “Lobster Claus”. The shows producers told Kelly about the email and she gave the station’s contest an on-air mention for contributing to the spirit of Christmas.

“Lobster Claus” is a December contest that CKBW has been running for ten years, and over the last four years on Country 100.7. Our listeners have made it one of the radio stations most sucessful on-air promotions.

The stations insert the word lobster into a traditional Christmas song, and when listeners hear it, it is their cue to call for a chance to win 25 pounds of live lobster.

The programming and news departments at CKBW & Country 100.7 worked together to ensure Kelly’s mention made it on-air, online and on our social media channels which attracted hundreds of likes, comments and shares in the local community.

Acadia reached out in hopes of delivering 25 pounds of fresh lobster to Kelly but she had already left New York for the holidays. However, it didn’t prevent the studio from recognizing our kind gesture and sending us holiday greetings.
